Molecular Metabolism & Cell Signaling Laboratory

Welcome to Molecular Metabolism and Cell Signaling Laboratory!! We are part of Biological Science and Bioengineering department at IIT-Kanpur. We study the physiological role of G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) signaling pathways in obesity, and diabetes to unravel new mechanisms to develop novel therapeutic targets. We use chemogenetic technology called Designer Receptors Exclusively Activated by Designer Drugs (DREADD) to understand the GPCR signaling pathways in metabolic tissues/cells. Our current interest is to understand the role of immune cells in metabolic syndromes with special focus on their effect on different insulin-sensitive tissues. We use various mutant mouse models, co-culture systems, and multi-omics approaches to decipher novel mechanisms in metabolic diseases.
